Description

This is the uniquely Gretsch G6121-1955 Chet Atkins Western Solid Body guitar. 1955 was a great year for Gretsch and marked the introduction of the 6120 and the lesser known 6121 Chet Atkins models. The 6121 shared most features with the 6120 but was built on the Duo Jet platform. Taking advantage of the solid body build Gretsch added hand tooled leather banding that was inlaid into the mahogany. The tooled leather, combined with the "cow & cactus" inlay and "G" Brand put's this guitar over the top in western style department. A very cool white leather bound case with more tooled leather and silken Gretsch sash completed the package. The new G6121-1955 is an incredible recreation of the original first year model, even the case is recreated. Unlike the name suggests, this guitar is actually mostly hollow with a heavily chambered mahogany body and authentic vintage style 3 ply laminate maple top. This construction yields the classic Gretsch Jet tone and makes the guitar exceptionally lightweight. The G6121-1955 is a very cool guitar with all the western style flair you could ever want. The quality and playability are quintessential Professional level Gretsch and the tone from the DynaSonic pickups is extremely full with clean articulate bass, shimmering high's and a very “wide open” sound.  The bridge pickup is bright and snappy and the neck is quite mellow with a nice bump in the upper low end. We are a long standing fully authorized independent Gretsch guitar dealer. This is a brand new factory first guitar and comes with the G6278 Premium Western Case (Retail $700.00), all documentation and the Gretsch Limited lifetime warranty. If you have any questions at all please feel free to give us a call!
