Rooted in the tradition of its industrious designers and builders, the Martin D15M is truly a workingman’s guitar. Mahogany, the tone wood that composes most of this guitar, including the top, has qualities that reflect not only its voice but the virtue of its players: even-grained with fine workability and a rich color that deepens with time. The new D-15M borrows a few design elements from the original 15 & 17 series guitars of the early 1900's. Martin has added an understated single gold ring rosette and vintage style open back tuners to capture it’s traditional vibe. They've also upgraded a few features from the standard 15 series, including a bone nut & saddle and solid ebony bridge pins. With all these aspects coinciding, this guitar yields a warm and woody character with great mid range definition and well rounded and controlled bass response. The D-15M is suitable for many styles of playing but is ideal for flatpicking. This is a brand new guitar and comes with the Martin limited lifetime warranty and the 345 3-ply hard case. About the 15 Series:
The 1930's brought hard economic times for America and Martin Guitar's answer was to focus their efforts on a line of simple utilitarian guitars now known as the "15" series. The 15 series still exits to this day despite the ups and downs of the U.S. economy. Features like a satin lacquer finish instead of high gloss, simple single herringbone rosette and unbound body are all intended to keep the price low without sacrificing quality or tone.
