Description
What makes this guitar special: A super cool double pickup Melody Maker finished in original Pelham Blue that has marvelously faded to green over the years. A true vintage beauty with a cool vibe - a silky smooth neck & sweet, sexy tone. A great addition to any Melody Maker collection & a definite must-have for any guitar aficionado.
Cosmetic Condition: A bit of a road warrior with that perfect, well-played, true vintage look we all love - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some finish wear. The Pelham Blue finish itself has aged over the last fifty years & turned into green, but remnants of the blue finish are still present in the chipped areas. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with a gorgeous patina.
Neck: Nicely rounded mahogany neck that gets chunkier as you work your way up the fretboard. Beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays & cream side-dots. Original frets show some light wear, but have plenty of life in them. Kluson Deluxe strip tuners with cream buttons in perfect working condition. 1 9/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod functions fine. The action is maybe a tad bit high around the 12th fret - about 3/16". The bridge is all the way down, so it may be just a function of a slightly inaccurate neck angle, since the neck itself is straight. The guitar is still quite playable; it's just the action up top is a bit higher than what most modern players prefer.
Body: SG-style, solid mahogany body finished in Pelham Blue. Tremolo tailpiece with compensated bridge. Single-ply cream pickguard is in great shape with no cracks. Guitar weighs 7 lbs 1.1 oz.
Pickups: Melody Maker single coils with cream covers. Bridge - 7.04K ohms; Neck - 7.32K ohms. Dual volume & tone controls with black "top hat" knobs & silver inserts. 3-way selector switch. Pots date to '66 & all electronics are in perfect working condition.
Case: Modern Gibson hardshell case included.
