Description

What makes this guitar special: A very rare Gibson-made parlor guitar, manufactured and made available in their catalogue only in 1934-35. The build, fit, and finish are virtually the same as an L-00 of the same era, with a dark sunburst and double bound maple back and sides, along with a 4-piece spruce top. The projection on this piece is stellar, and because the hard wood construction has opened up so beautifully, the sound far exceeds expectation. This one is oozing with patina as well, with gorgeous checking patterns throughout the entire guitar, providing a beautiful aesthetic. It comes professionally setup and inspected by our expert in-house luthier, and will arrive ready to play out of the case.

Cosmetic condition: Great shape for its age, with typical wear throughout. Various scratches, dents, dings, nicks, chips, and scuffs throughout, with visible weather checking throughout most of the instrument. The D-string tuner is bent, but functions fine. There is one notable chip on the top at the treble edge of the lower bout (see photos), and there are various spots of finish wear throughout, including around the neck joint, suggesting the neck was reset at some point in the past. The guitar does not have an adjustable truss rod, so the action sits just a touch high at the 12th fret, but plays comfortably up and down the length of the fingerboard.

Body: Double bound ladder-braced maple back and sides with bound 4-piece spruce top in sunburst finish. Original nickel trapeze tailpiece and floating rosewood bridge, with carved ivoroid inlaid rosette.

Weight: 3 lb, 7.2 oz

Neck: Chunky V-shaped mahogany neck with double bound rosewood fingerboard. Binding is markerless, and fingerboard showcases pearloid dots. 1 13/16” nut width, 24 3/4" scale length. Black headstock overlay with white Recording King logo and Kluson style open gear tuners with black buttons. Neck is straight and while action sits a touch high in the upper register, plays nicely up and down the length of the fingerboard.

Case: Vintage chipboard case included.
