Description
What makes this guitar special: Shelby is the precursor to Gallagher Guitars. J.W. Gallagher started building Shelby brand guitars in the Slingerland Drum factory in Shelbyville, TN in '63. Two years later he & his son Don made the first Gallagher guitar. A few years back we had a Shelby S221 "Folk" model with serial number 651904-1, so just a digit away from this "Western" model. This gorgeous S321 is sort of a small body dreadnought with an amazing rich, woody tone that's surprisingly loud for its size - very bright & punchy with powerful sound projection & sustain. Professionally set up by our own luthier with fresh strings & low action, so it plays & sounds fantastic!
Cosmetic Condition: Super cool, true vintage vibe with lots of sweet mojo. The guitar shows off that typical look of a well-played vintage guitar from the '60s, with various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some finish wear throughout. The top has aged beautifully into a caramel/orangey color with a gorgeous patina. There's a very tiny gap between the back of the bridge & top where a single piece of paper can barely fit. Overall the guitar looks wonderful & is in perfect working condition.
Neck: Two-piece, V-shaped mahogany neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots. Beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with large mother of pearl dot inlays. Frets & fingerboard show some wear, but have plenty of life in them. Kluson Deluxe strip tuners are in perfect working condition. 1 11/16" nut width; 25 1/2" scale length. Neck is straight & plays great up & down the fretboard.
Body: Solid spruce top with 3-ply binding. Rosewood bridge with mother of pearl dot inlays, cream end pins & compensated saddle. 2-ply black/white pickguard & 5-ply rosette. Solid mahogany back & sides with single-ply binding. 15 1/2" lower bout width; 11 1/2" upper bout width; 4 1/2" depth. There is no pickup; guitar weighs 4 lbs 2.4 oz.
Case: Vintage hardshell case included.
