The Trusty Lager is built around an LM741 chip with numerous personal touches added, giving it an extensive range of top-notch tones. Using the Level and Tone controls, players can set the overall output and brightness of their signal. Players can then use the Dist knob to control the amount of distortion added - from subtle and driving to massive and grating.
Further tone-shaping is available through the Trusty Lager's dual switches. On the left is a switch that lets users pick between clipping diodes. The 'I' position engages silicon diodes for a classic sounding overdrive with moderate compression, while the 'II' position activates LED diodes for a very open, less compressed distortion. The switch on the right controls how much low-end is sent to the distortion control. If you're looking for a rich, fat distortion, flip it to the bass clef. If you want tight lows with an accentuated top-end, flip it to the treble clef.
