Description

This is the very unique G6120-CGP Chet Atkins "Certified Guitar Player" model from the Gretsch Professional Collection. This guitar is a reissue of a single instrument designed in part by Chet himself that was never released as a catalog model, until now. The unique aspect of the guitar is that it has the ability to operate in "stereo" mode where the 3 bass side strings are sent to one amp and the 3 treble side strings are sent to another. Aside from the obvious amplification benefits of this design, the ability manipulate the treble side with effects while keeping the bass side clean or perhaps treating it with alternate effects, opens up a creative rabbit-hole that some guitarist might have a hard time climbing out of! With the flip of a switch the guitar can revert back to normal mono mode and operate like a standard G6120, in all its glory. Another unique feature of the G6120-CGP is that it has a 1 3/4" nut width and is currently the only 6120 model with this feature in the Gretsch lineup. So if you'd like a G6120 but require a 1 3/4" nut (many fingerstyle players do) then this is one of your only options. The tone from the custom TV Jones FilterTron's is classic Gretsch with bright and snappy bridge and rich a beautifully smooth and rich sound from the neck pickup. The guitar is all-Pro series Gretsch with professional playability and fretwork combined with a perfect neck angle. In addition to the amazing concept and quality of this guitar, it's also got some very unique style features like inlaid simulated F-Holes and crème colored FilterTrons. We think it's an absolutely gorgeous instrument that would make a great addition to any collection of unique guitars! We are a long standing fully authorized independent Gretsch guitar dealer. This is a "NOS" "B-stock" guitar from Gretsch from 2007 and is in near mint condition with only a VERY minor amount of finish swirl on the back. The guitar will ship as shown with the deluxe Gretsch hard case, all documentation and the Gretsch Limited lifetime warranty. If you have any questions at all please feel free to give us a call!

About the Guitar (from Gretsch.com)

Only ONE was ever made… UNTIL NOW!!! The original prototype Gretsch STEREO guitar was created for Chet Atkins in 1956 with the help of musician and electronics repairman from Cairo, Illinois, Ray Butts. Ray's ingenious split-dual-coil pickup was assembled on a prototype G6120 guitar with closed simulated "F-Hole" inlays on the body, Only ONE was ever produced.

Chet used this special, one-of-a-kind instrument on his ground breaking 1957 album, "Finger-Style Guitar". Wired with two output jacks, the signal from the bass strings would run through the echo input on his amplifier while the treble strings were fed dry through the normal channel. Though at the time the concept of a "stereo" guitar was a brilliant idea, it was deemed impractical as the cost to produce it put it out of reach of the general buying public. The project was shelved.

With the help of legendary sideman & bandleader to Atkins, Paul Yandell, and renowned pickup designer/luthier, Tom "TV" Jones, Gretsch is proud to introduce the G6120-CGP Chet Atkins STEREO guitar. With a flip of a switch the instrument operates in Mono or Stereo. In STEREO mode, the signal of the low E, A & D strings are isolated to a designated output jack while the high E, B & G strings are routed to their own output jack. Whether you use two amplifiers spread apart or record a performance with a wide left/right pan, the results are mind blowing! In MONO mode, the signal to all six strings route to one output.

As a limited release, only 75 guitars will be produced world wide in 2008. Here's your chance to own one of the first batch of reproductions of this seminal instrument.
