An absolutely marvelous L-1 model featuring a Western Red Cedar top & exquisite Ancient English Bog Oak for the back & sides. Justifiably described as the world’s rarest tonewood, this near fossilised ancient timber reveals a dark, silky hue & subtle figure. The astoundingly rich tone is comparable with any premium tropical hardwood. Radio carbon dating confirms it is over 5,000 years old! A truly superb sounding guitar with a rich, powerful voice that projects exceptionally well while still maintaining its clarity & definition throughout the lower & higher registers.
Cosmetic Condition: Excellent condition overall - however there are some surface scratches here & there along with some mild finish checking in the back of the body.
Neck: Soft V-shaped Mahogany neck along with strips of Sycamore & Rosewood in the center & an Ebony heel cap. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl Celtic Tree Of Life inlay. Rosewood & Sycamore neck binding. Frets are in great shape with no wear. Rosewood headstock overly with mother of pearl Avalon logo. Gold Gotoh tuners with ebonoid buttons. 1 3/4" width bone nut; 25 1/2" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod is in perfect working condition.
Body: Solid Western Red Cedar top. The top & back binding is Australian Blackwood with Sycamore top purfling. Ebony bridge & end pins with compensated bone saddle.
Abalone rosette & no pickguard. The back & sides are made of solid Ancient English Bog Oak, displaying some incredible variegation throughout the perfectly book matched back & sides. There are no electronics & the guitar weighs 5 lbs 3.1 oz.
