Description
Known as the “John Lennon” model, this beautiful sounding 1651 Legend is in great shape for its age. The solid spruce top & lyrachord bowl back combination produces a pleasant tonal range that represents all of the frequencies in the spectrum. It has a very nice low end response, with a strong mid-range presence & crisp, clear high end. Thanks to a professional set up from our in-house tech, the guitar plays like a dream & is ready for action straight out of the case.
Cosmetic Condition: Great shape overall. It does display various light surface scratches & a few minor dents & dings. Gently used, but not abused & a really lovely looking guitar with a wonderful vibe.
Neck: Soft V-shape 5-ply maple & mahogany neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl diamond & dot inlays. Frets show some wear, but have plenty of life in them. Ovation gold diecast tuners are in perfect working condition. 1 11/16” nut width. 25 1/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Body: Solid spruce top in Nutmeg finish with multi-layer binding. Rosewood bridge with mother of pearl dot inlays & compensated saddle. Large plastic "leaf"rosette. Brown Lyrachord deep bowl back. Guitar weighs 6 lbs 7.7 oz.
Electronics: Under-saddle pickup with concentric volume & tone controls. Mono & Stereo output jacks with stereo cable included. The pickup is not functioning properly or fully. There's good strong sound coming from the low E, D & B strings, but a more muted or muffled sound from the A G & high E strings (basically every other string rings out). In other words there appears to be something malfunctioning with the pickup element itself & not the saddle or shims.
Case: Includes original hard shell case and original paperwork. The top & sides of the case have faded more to an olive color, whereas the bottom still looks more like its original brown.
