Description
Cosmetic Condition: 1954 is the introductory year for the J-160E & the only year it came with a solid top & 19 frets. This one's been through a lot, with the wear & tear to prove it. A real player's grade guitar, but still retains its cool vintage vibe & robust tone. Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches, pick wear, lacquer cracks, weather checking & finish wear from years & years of play. We recently acquired the guitar & the original P-90 pickup had been removed along with the original wiring harness & pots. We installed a brand new P-90 & harness, along with brand new control knobs. There are four small holes around the soundhole (two on either side). These were most likely from a previous soundhole pickup. There are two larger holes in the top, between the two control knobs. There's also some finish disruption around that area - not sure what was going on there, but the area is stable as is the input jack. The bridge was reglued before we got the guitar & is very secure to the top. The nut is not original, but the neck is straight & plays great up & down the fingerboard. Overall the guitar has a cool "workhorse" look to it with a gorgeous patina. It's been professionally set up by us & sounds beautiful with a warm, rich tone. Tons of fun to play & hard to put down.
Neck: Medium profile mahogany neck with nicely aged cream binding & tortoise side dots. Beautiful Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl trapezoid inlays. Original frets show some wear, but have plenty of life in them. Original Kluson tuners are in good working condition. The D tuner is slightly bent, but still functions properly. Again the nut is unoriginal, but is still the proper 1 11/16" width. 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Body: Round shoulder dreadnought with solid spruce top & 3-ply binding. The sunburst finish has aged & mellowed wonderfully over the years & gives the guitar a softness you only find in true vintage acoustics. Rosewood belly bridge with large pearloid dots & cream end pins. There are some very minor surface cracks in between the pins, but this is purely cosmetic as the bridge is very sound & secure. 3-ply rosette & original tortoise pickguard. Mahogany sides & back with single-ply binding.
Pickup: New generic P-90 single coil - 8.35K ohms. Master volume & tone controls with new gold "top hat" knobs & new pots. All electronics are in perfect working condition.
Case: Unoriginal hardshell case included.
