Description

What makes this guitar special: A fantastic example with a terrific fit & finish, tight neck body connection, and a beautifully variegated Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. The Dakota Red finish is a real eye-catcher, and has aged beautifully along with the rest of the guitar-the patina on this piece is spectacular. This guitar was built in the heart of the transition period, with a June ’65 neck date, ’65 dated pots & pickups, an “L” serial number and a transition logo on the headstock. It’s absolutely everything you’d expect a Pre-CBS Fender to be. Professionally inspected and setup by our expert in-house luthier, this piece will arrive ready to play.

Cosmetic condition: Great shape for its age, with some honest wear throughout. There are various scratches, dents, dings, nicks, chips, and scuffs present, with visible finish checking throughout, some light finish wear on the back of the neck, and oxidation on the hardware. There are two small etchings on the body from a previous owner-one on the back that reads “Chet Chas 92” and one on the top that reads “Ed Babin”. The intonation screw for the G string has been replaced, and the tremolo arm is not original. The original switches were faulty, and have been replaced. However, the original switches are in the case. Frets do show some wear consistent with age, but still have quite a bit of life left in them. Overall, this one has a great look to it, with a true vintage patina.

Body: Double cutaway solid alder body in Dakota Red finish with 3-ply pearloid pickguard, Fender Dynamic Vibrato tailpiece and two-post bridge with individually adjustable saddles.

Weight: 7 lb, 8.1 oz

Neck: Slender solid maple neck with pearl side dots and pearl dot inlays. Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is in awesome shape, and showcases some lovely variegation. Frets show some wear, but have a good amount of life left in them. 1 5/8” nut width, 24” scale length. Transition headstock logo on the headstock. Original Kluson tuners work great. Neck is straight and truss rod is functional. Neck dates to June of ’65.

Electronics: Original single coil pickups (Neck-5.91k ohms, Bridge-5.57k ohms) with individual phase switches. Black knobs with white indicators, 1x tone, 1x volume. Pickups date to ’65. Pots date to ’65. All electronics have been tested and are fully functional.

Case: Original hard shell case included.
