Description
Cosmetic Condition: Cool vintage vibe with a very strong cherry finish. There are various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & finish wear. The previous owner scratched his driver's license number into the back of the body just below the strap button. It's very small, but noticeable. There is a 2 pressed into the back of the headstock just below the serial number, indicating this guitar was a factory second. At some point in time the guitar had a neck reset as evidenced by the broken finish around the neck heel. There's also a little bit of finish chipping in both cutaways on either side of the neck. The neck is straight & the truss rod works, but the action is still very high when tuned up to pitch. The neck really needs to be professionally reset again to correct the angle & make the guitar more playable. Perhaps that's why it's a factory second. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with a gorgeous patina.
Neck: Slender profile mahogany neck with cream biding & tortoise side-dots. Beautiful, dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl trapezoid inlays. Original frets are in great shape with no wear. "Double lip" Kluson Deluxe tuners in perfect working condition. The guitar has the transitional nut width - wider than 1 9/16", but narrower than 1 11/16". Neck is straight & truss rod works good, however, it will require a professional reset to get it into proper playing condition. Tuned to standard pitch, the string height at the 12th fret is 1/4".
Body: Solid mahogany body with 5-ply, small black pickguard. The pickguard has warped a little bit, but there are no cracks in it. Maestro tremolo tailpiece with Gibson & Lyre engravings. ABR-1 bridge with nylon saddles. Chrome hardware. Guitar weighs 6lbs 14.5oz.
Pickups: Gibson Pat Number humbuckers. Neck - 7.81K ohms; 7.39K ohms. The neck pickup has a braided lead wire & is correct for the time period, but the bridge pickup wire is plastic, which leads us to believe it may not be original even though the Pat No sticker is underneath it. There is also some routing in the bridge pickup cavity. Pots date to '65. All electronics are in perfect working condition.
Case: Original hardshell case included.
