Description
A superb example of one of Gretsch's most iconic models - the Chet Atkins Country Gentleman - made famous of course by George Harrison. This gorgeous '64 model features double flip mutes rather than the earlier screw down version. Thankfully this one has also managed to evade the dreaded "binding rot" that has plagued so many vintage Gretsches over the years. A truly beautiful specimen offering a warm, resonant tone that plays very well.
Cosmetic Condition: Great shape for its age & well-cared for over the years. Light play wear - minor nicks & dings; surface scratches, small finish blemishes & gentle wear throughout. Overall the guitar looks wonderful & rather clean for the most part.
Neck: Two-piece maple neck with some light flame figuring in the treble side. Nicely aged cream binding with red side-dots. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl "thumbnail" inlays. Frets show some wear, but have plenty of life in them. Bound headstock with gold plaque riveted to the front of the headstock. Serial number reads 74345. Grover tuners are in perfect working condition. 1 11/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length.
Body: Double-bound, semi-hollow maple body with simulated F-holes. Bigsby tremolo tailpiece with Rocking Bar bridge & gold hardware. Double mutes work perfectly, however, the pads are newer. Gold plexi pickguard with Gretsch logo. The pickguard is in great shape with no cracks, as is the back pad, with no snaps missing. Guitar weighs 8 lbs 8.6 oz.
Electronics: SuperTron neck humbucker & "blacktop" FilterTron bridge humbucker with gold bezels. Master volume & individual pickup volume controls all with "G" Arrow knobs. 3-way pickup, tone & standby switches. All electronics are in perfect working condition.
Case: Original hardshell case included, also in great shape!
