Description
Condition: This is a beautiful sounding Gibson mandolin is great shape for its age! The finish on top has developed a gorgeous golden patina. There are various scratches, small nicks and dings, very light weather checking and finish wear throughout the instrument. There is some finish wear and a small chip on the back of the neck and the side of the instrument. A small section of the pickguard is missing near the sound hole. The bridge and two saddles have been modified slightly (see photos). The fingerboard and frets have moderate play wear and plenty of life left in them. This instrument is really quite clean for being 100 years old! The neck is very straight with very comfortable action.
Body: A-style body with bound solid Spruce top with a natural finish and Birch back and sides in a reddish finish. Metal tailpiece and cover, Rosewood bridge with compensated saddle. Tortoise pickguard and bound sound hole with two inlaid rings.
Neck: “V’ shaped mahogany neck with bound Ebony fingerboard, pearloid dot inlays and a 1 ¼” nut. Four-on-a-strip tuners with ivoroid buttons, 14” scale length. There is a very light sticker ghost on the back of the headstock, only visible upon close inspection.

Playability/Sound: This is a phenomenal example of an early A-1 Gibson mandolin. The wood has matured giving it a very natural warm sound that resonates beautifully with plenty of volume. The neck is very comfortable with no playability issues.
