Description
Condition: This is a great example of the Thin Twin Jimmy Reed guitar. Authentic, well played look with various surface scratches, nicks, chips, dings and dents that all add to its unique vintage vibe! There is some finish disruption from decals that were removed some time ago. This has left some sticker ghosting on the upper bass side bout. There is an extra screw hole for a strap button on the upper bass side bout (see photos). The output jack sustained some impact damage resulting in a hole in the wood. A new jack plate was installed which covers the damage (see photos). Fingerboard and original frets have moderate play wear and plenty of life left in them. When we acquired this guitar, the neck was loose and needed to be reset. Our master luthier performed a professional neck re-set which had excellent results. The neck is very straight with nice, low action up and down the fingerboard. The upper strap button and jack plate are unoriginal but function perfectly. There is one lug on the neck pickup tone control pot that likely had a capacitor connected to it at one time. Additionally, the neck pickup is wired so the tone is always rolled off rendering the tone control inactive. The current wiring appears original with the exception of the tone pot lug, so we are leaving it as is to keep everything as original as possible. The bridge pickup tone control functions but loses some volume when rolled down. All electronics and parts are otherwise in excellent shape.
Body: Double-bound hollow body with single cutaway. Flame maple top and back with mahogany sides in natural finish. The top and back display some gorgeous flame figuring. Original nickel trapeze tailpiece with height-adjustable rosewood bridge. Single-ply cream pickguard in great shape with no cracks. Some of the color on the black trim and the blue lightning bolts has faded.
Neck: Super chunky and nicely round mahogany neck with ivoroid binding. Beautiful, dark rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlays. Bound headstock with ornate Old Kraftsman overlay. Three-on-a-strip Kluson Deluxe nickel tuners with ivoroid buttons in perfect working condition. 26” scale length. There were different tuners at one time evident by extra screw holes under the current tuners.
Pickups/Electronics: Thin single-coil pickups in the neck and bridge with dual volume and tone controls and a 3-way selector switch.
Neck: 4.79K Ohms.
Bridge: 10.52K Ohms.
Weight: 6lbs, 15.0oz.
Playability/Sound: This is a great example of a guitar that is becoming more and more rare. The hollow body design combined with the thin single-coil pickups provides a very unique tone. The chunky neck is very comfortable. This guitar really delivers the classic Jimmy Reed sound.
Case: Includes newer model hardshell case in excellent shape.
