Description

What makes this guitar special: One of the last guitars designed by Leo for Fender, post CBS acquisition, but prior to his departure from the company. The specially voiced pickups in tandem with individually adjustable bridge saddles made this one a favorite amongst musicians of the era, used extensively by Pete Townshend on the Tommy album and famously on the studio recording of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven. This one comes in a dazzling custom color Candy Apple Red, with an awesome matching hockey stick headstock and a handpainted pickguard that is dripping with hippie vibes and vintage mojo. The neck dates to ’65, as do the pots-this was one of the early ones. Professionally setup by the experts at Cream City Music, this beauty will arrive ready to play out of the case.

Cosmetic condition: Terrific shape for its age, with some standard wear and tear throughout. Various scratches, dents, nicks, dings, dents, and chips, with some small areas of finish wear and light weather checking. Original finish does show some orange peel, which is somewhat common on these models. The word “Electric” is missing from the headstock (being that this is an early production guitar, this could be original). Frets do show wear, but still have life left in them. However, there is some fret buzz on the bass side beyond the 15th fret. The pickguard is original, but has been handpainted with a hippie mural of sorts-a naked woman riding a flower with a magic wand. Trippy! Overall, this one has an awesome vintage vibe with a gorgeous patina.

Body: Solid alder body in candy apple red finish. String-through 12 saddle bridge. 3-ply white pickguard with hand painted folk art. F stamped neck plate.

Weight: 8 lb, 12 oz

Neck: Slim D-shaped maple neck with white side dots and pearl dot inlays. Hockey stick headstock with matching candy apple red finish and Kluson Deluxe tuners in perfect working order. Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is in terrific shape with no pitting. 1 5/8” nut width, 25 1/2" scale length. Neck is straight and truss rod is fully functional.

Electronics: Dual split single coil pickups with 4-way pickup selector switch and black witchhat knobs, 1x tone, 1x volume.

Case: Original hard shell case included.
