Description

What makes this guitar special: A perfect example of player’s grade vintage…no cracks, no breaks, no repairs, with a handful of significant upgrades. The DeArmond in the neck has been swapped for a vintage DiMarzio, which adds a full, warm sound and a ton of versatility when used in tandem with the stock DeArmond in the bridge. The combination is absolutely fantastic, representing the full spectrum of sound beautifully with a fabulous tone! The tuners have been swapped for a set of Schallers, and the bridge and tailpiece have been upgraded too-increasing the already superb resonance on this piece. It’s been gone over by our in-house luthier and setup with fresh strings and low action, so it’ll absolutely sing as soon as you get your hands on it.

Cosmetic condition: Pretty good shape for a 50 year old piece, with typical playwear throughout. Various scratches, dents, nicks, dings, chips, and scuffs throughout, with plenty of finish checking and some “hanger rash” on the underside of the headstock. The original pickguard and truss rod cover are missing, as are the original neck pickup, bridge, and tailpiece. The nut appears to be a replacement as well. A mini-toggle has been added just below the treble side f-hole, there is one very small area of binding separation on the back just behind the endpin, and frets show some visible wear (but still have a lot of life left!). Overall, this one has a great player’s vibe with a gorgeous patina.

Body: Double bound semi-hollow maple body in sunburst finish with replacement Tune-O-Matic style bridge and trapeze tailpiece.

Weight: 8 lb, 1 oz

Neck: Super comfortable rounded mahogany neck with black side dots and pearl dot inlays. Beautifully variegated double bound rosewood fingerboard is in marvelous shape with no pitting, and while frets show some visible wear, they still have a ton of life left in them. 1 11/16” nut width, 24 3/4" scale length. Headstock sports a mother-of-pearl Guild logo and crown/scepter. Truss rod is newer and not original. Replacement Schaller tuners function perfectly. Neck is straight and truss rod functions as it should.

Electronics: Original DeArmond humbucker in the bridge position with replacement DiMarzio humbucker in the neck position, 3-way pickup selector switch, added toggle (toggle appears to be a brightness switch, but the effect is relatively minimal), and original “G” knobs, 2x tone, 2x volume. All electronics are in fully functional condition.

Case: Original hard shell case included. Case has some wear and tear, but functions fine. The tab for the center compartment inside the case is gone, so it’s a little tricky to open, but the outside of the case is solid and all the latches work.
