Similar to traditional guitars, a bass guitar can come in electric and acoustic styles. While a little more uncommon, acoustic bass guitars can offer a unique touch to your sound and music.
What are the top bass guitar brands?
Fender is a major player in the bass world, with their industry leading models like the Fender Precision Bass and Fender Jazz Bass.
Due to their high quality build, classic looks, and simple designs, both the Fender P-Bass and Fender J-Bass have become bassists’ go-to models and ultimately helped shape the industry into what it is today.
Another common favorite are Ibanez bass guitars. Since entering the industry, Ibanez has been responsible for some of the most innovative and versatile bass guitars ever made, such as the iconic SR Series.
How to choose the right bass guitar?
If you’re a beginner or looking to get a bass for a younger player, a short scale bass may be the best option. While the large majority of bass guitars have a string length of 34”, short scale models have string lengths that run from 30” to 32”. These basses have shorter necks, less spacing between frets, and lower string tension that are ideal for beginners.
Otherwise, if you are unsure what type of bass guitar to get, best measures are to keep it traditional. Personal taste and style will matter the most, but you can never go wrong with a 4-string fretted model.
