What makes this guitar special? Even with a myriad of mods, this is still a ’59 Junior body and neck through and through and is still a pretty awesome thing to behold. The body was refinished in 1974 but its original charm still shines right through its modifications. The pickups sound great top to bottom while the L-6 style bridge, additional tailpiece, and chrome pickup rings give it a look that few others possess. The adjustability of the replaced bridge also offers players a considerable upgrade in terms of intonation as well. To top it all off, it has some fantastic looking finishing checking that reminds players this guitar was and still deserves to be a tenured member of someone’s roster.
Condition: This guitar is in good condition overall, especially considering its age. It does have various nicks and dings throughout the body and neck, most of which are on the surface but there are a few small marks that penetrate the finish. There are some neck heel cracks that show a slight bit of movement, but have been previously repaired and the neck as a whole remains stable. The frets show mild wear but still have quite a bit of life left in them.
Body: Refinished (in 1974 by a professional luthier) double cutaway mahogany body. Unoriginal L-6 style Tune-o-Matic bridge (replaced in ’74). Unoriginal trapeze tailpiece. Unoriginal pickguard and pickup rings. Extra cavity routed for second pickup. Unoriginal black speed knobs. Unoriginal mini-toggle switch.
Neck: Refinished medium-round mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard. Original serial number sprayed over. Unoriginal Grover tuning machines (replaced in 1974). 1 11/16” nut.
Electronics: Zhang Bucker Pagey 2 humbucker in the neck and Zhang Bucker Duanebucker in the bridge. 3-way mini-toggle pickup selector.

Playability/Sound: The handwound Zhang Buckers in this guitar sound fantastic. The Pagey 2 has a nice amount of responsive low end yet a good amount of chime in the mid-high range. The Duanebucker is crisp and clean with a bit of chunk to it. The medium-round neck is incredibly comfortable and will be a welcome change from the slim nature of most modern profiles.
