Description
What makes this guitar special: A unique archtop to say the least, this Framus 74A has a design as unique as the company that made it. Its laminate maple top has a distinct shape that seems to swoop around the neck and flattens just underneath it, but it still sounds like a traditional archtop all the same. Its tone is rooted in an incredibly punchy low midrange that extends up into a rich and sweet upper register that has nice chime and mild sustain. Its overall volume is quite surprising even for an archtop and it has great loud to soft dynamic. Plus, outside of light wear mostly around the edges, it is still in great shape, comes with a hardshell case, and a professional setup to boot.
Condition: This guitar is in very good condition overall. It shows only various small dings, dents, chips, scratches, and other forms of normal wear, but it is still in great shape for a guitar that’s around 50 years old. The frets show light to mild wear but are even and still play great top to bottom. The neck is comfortable and the truss rod functions as it should.
Body: Single cutaway archtop with laminate maple top, back, and sides in Sunburst finish. Single-ply bound top. Single-ply raised black pickguard. Adjustable floating bridge (one saddle has been replaced) and split trapeze tailpiece.
Neck: Rounded square shape hardwood laminate neck and rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. 3-per-side open-gear tuning machines. 1 5/8” nut width and zero fret nut. .86” deep at the 1st fret and 1.06” deep at the 12th.
Weight: 5 lbs 8.1 oz
Playability/Sound: The neck has a truly unique feel with its round square shape but still plays with surprisingly comfort. The tone is fantastic with a super punchy midrange that extends with a bit more power into the lower registers and adds a touch of warmth and body to the top end.
Case: Includes hardshell case.
