Description

What makes this guitar special: Worn but no less inviting, this early 70s Guild has a lot to boast in terms of tone. As with many older Guilds, it has an incredibly big and open voice thanks to years of playing and its aptly designed figure. It has a big and bellowing bottom end that transitions into a warm and smooth low midrange that increases in intensity, richness, and clarity as it extends up through the upper midrange and into the chime of the top end, imparting the perfect amount of jangle to give it some additional tonal definition. Whoever its owners were over the years gave it some solid playing time and it shows, both in the aesthetic of its worn and vintage charm, but also in its overall volume and big and warm overall response. Anyone more concerned with great sound than looks will take its “chipped tooth” in stride as a mark of character, as it matters little in the fantastic sound it’s held onto for over four decades. Not only does it still play great, but includes its original hardshell case and a professional setup to boot.

Condition: This guitar is in good condition overall, if not better. It does have a glaring chunk out of the rosette, but other than that, really only shows various nicks, dings, dents, scuffs, and scratches, which is still only light to mild playwear for a 40+ year old guitar. Otherwise it’s still in pretty great shape and still sounds fantastic. The frets show only light wear, and mild in a few places, but still have quite a bit of life left in them. The neck is comfortable and the truss rod is functioning. The case is in poor condition, as although most of the latches work, it is missing some of its covering and the top rim is separating from the top.

Body: Double-bound dreadnought body with mahogany back and sides and a spruce top in Natural finish. Multi-ply top binding. Rosewood bridge with uncompensated saddle and white plastic bridge pins. Tortoise pickguard.

Neck: Medium soft V shape mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. Open-gear Waverly tuning machines. 1 11/16” nut width. 25.5” scale length. .85” deep at the 1st fret and 1.08” deep at the 12th.

Weight: 4 lbs 5.3 oz

Playability/Sound: The neck feels like the perfect hybrid between a medium depth C shape and a soft V, making it an easy transition for a wide variety of players. The tone in fantastic all-around, with a robust and bellowing low end, a rich, yet slightly less boxy midrange, and a ton of chime in its top end, all of which has quite a bit of power and volume.

Case: Includes original hardshell case.
