Description
Condition: This is a great sounding EB-3 bass with an awesome vintage look and feel. There are scratches, nicks, dings, dents and chips throughout the entire instrument. There are two large gouges on the bass side horn that go through to the wood (see photos). There is also a large chip in the headstock on the treble side on top. There is a partially filled in screw hole next to the strap button by the neck from a previously installed strap button. There is another small screw hole directly next to one of the volume controls (see photos). There are some heavy dings, dents and chips throughout the entire finish including the headstock and neck, but the body primarily has the most damage. The bridge and pickup cover are missing and the screw holes are visible. Two of the screws on the bridge pickup are partially stripped and stuck in place likely due to rust. The pickup still functions perfectly however. Fingerboard and frets have moderate play wear with heavier wear in the lower registers. The neck is very straight and the truss rod functions fine. All electronics and parts are in perfect working condition. The last two digits of the serial number have two numbers overlapping them so it is difficult to determine the correct year. Based on what is most visible and the pot codes, we have determined the bass to be from 1973.
Body: Solid contoured double-cutaway body in cherry finish. The cherry finish has aged nicely and appears more brown in some areas. Two-point top-load tailpiece/bridge with four individual saddles, skirted control knobs with silver inserts, a chicken head rotary switch and a 5-ply black pickguard.
Neck: Slender maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, pearloid dot inlays, a volute and a 1 5/8” nut. Chrome open-gear tuners, 34” scale length.
Pickups/Electronics: Single coil pickup in the neck and a mini humbucker in the bridge. Dual volume and tone controls and a 4-way rotary selector switch.
Weight: 9lbs, 10.0oz.
Playability/Sound: This is a great sounding EB-3! The pickups are very versatile together and offer a wide combination of useful sounds. Anything from a bright and punchy sound to a deep tone with a thick and full low end is easy to dial in. The slender neck is very comfortable and suitable for any playing style.
Case: Includes original chipboard case. Two of the hinges are broken and some of the binding is loose. The buyer may want to consider acquiring a hardshell case for the bass.
