Description
What makes this guitar special: A great playing MIJ model with a punchy tone and terrific resonance. This barebones Jazzer is the perfect rock n roll fit, with excellent playability and enough versatility to weave into other genres. The fit and finish on this piece is awesome, with solid construction and very good balance. Based on the serial, we can determine that this bass was made between ’84 and ’87, but because there is no neck date or pote code to read, we’re calling it an ’87. It comes professionally intonated by our in-house luthier, so it’ll arrive ready to play.
Cosmetic condition: Pretty good shape for its age, with various expected playwear throughout. Visible scratches, nicks, chips, dings, dents, and some visible fretwear. There is a notable area where the finish has chipped off on the bass side of the lower bout, and some visible oxidation on the hardware. Action is a little on the high side but the neck is straight, intonates properly, and is playable up and down the length of the fretboard.
Body: Contoured double cutaway alder body in jade pearl metallic finish with top loading 4-saddle black chrome bridge.
Weight: 8lb, 11.4oz
Neck: Nicely rounded medium profile maple neck, finished in black, with white side dots and white dot inlays. Rosewood fingerboard is in great shape and while frets show some wear, they do have a good amount of life left in them. 1 5/8” nut width, 34” scale length. Headstock is finished in black with black open gear tuners that function perfectly. Neck is straight and truss rod works as it should.
Electronics: Dual single coil pickups (one split, one straight) with 3-way pickup selector switch and black plastic knobs, 2x volume, 1x tone with détente.
Playability/Tone: Punchy, growly rock and roll tone, with smooth action up and down the fingerboard. This bass is best suited to rock, but has enough versatility to work in other genres.
Case: Original Fender USA case included. One of the latches is a little finicky, but otherwise it's in good shape.
