Electronic Audio Experiments' Halberd V2 is a medium-gain overdrive with the fullness and grind of a much higher-gain pedal, giving it a wonderfully rich and dynamic voice. If you're a fan of the V1, you'll love this upgraded new version that boasts an extensive array of dirty tones and a more compact footprint.
The Halberd V2 features a redesigned circuit that ditches the NOS germanium transistor of the V1 while adding a 3-way Voice Toggle that delivers three distinct tones:
1. Clang: Aggressive and biting with accentuated upper mids.
2. Standard: Similar to the sound of the Halberd V1, with moderate drive and a slightly accentuated midrange.
3. Deep: A thick, gristly full range gain boost with woolly saturation and a fuzzy note attack.
After selecting your mode, fine-tune your sound with the Halberd V2's intuitive control section. The Pre knob sets the overall signal gain, while the Post knob controls the pedal's output level. The Depth and Tone controls act as expected, with Depth serving as a low-frequency shelving filter at the input, and Tone as a high-frequency shelf cut at the output. Mix these settings to your liking, and you'll be able to dial in any dirt sound from warm and driven to sharp and grating.
Complete with a downsized, compact enclosure that's the perfect size for most pedalboards, the Halberd V2 is an excellent choice for players who loved the V1 but want something with a little extra versatility.
