Description
The critically-acclaimed Friedman BE-100 was Dave Friedman's first production amplifier and quickly became one of the most sought-after British-voiced high-gain amps on the market. To bring that signature tone into a smaller and more portable format, Friedman introduced the original PT-20 as a compact and streamlined companion to the BE-100. Designed for players who wanted the unmistakable Friedman sound in a lightweight and simplified package, the PT-20 quickly earned a reputation for delivering big amp tone in a small head.
The PT-20 V2 is the latest evolution of this 20-watt EL84-powered all tube head. Despite its single-channel layout, it offers an impressive range of tones suitable for blues, classic rock, hard rock and even metal. By adjusting the gain and master controls along with the newly-added switches, players can easily shape gain structure of the amp. Lower gain settings with the master pushed deliver classic rock tones inspired by the 1960s and 1970s, while engaging the Fat switch adds thickness and body. Turning the gain higher or activating the Sat switch introduces a more modern voice with increased saturation and aggression.
Although some players assume EL84 amplifiers cannot deliver the tight low end and punch of larger EL34 powered designs, Friedman engineered the PT-20 V2 to challenge that idea. With custom transformers and an extremely clear signal path, the amp delivers the feel of a much larger amplifier with tight bass response and rich harmonic detail. It also responds beautifully to the guitars volume control and pairs exceptionally well with pedals.
