The Fulltone RTO Robin Trower Overdrive was designed in close collaboration with Trower himself during his 2008 tour, and it's built to reflect the kind of dynamic, expressive tone he's known for. This isn't your average overdrive; it's a responsive, amp-like drive that works especially well with Strat-style guitars and heavier strings, thanks to its touch-sensitive feel and smooth sustain. Whether you're pairing it with a Marshall, Fender, or something in between, the RTO brings a warm, harmonically rich breakup that feels big even at lower volumes.
Inside, the RTO uses a JFET op-amp with an asymmetrical clipping design to keep things natural and dynamic. There's no input buffer, which gives it a raw, immediate feel, and its high input and low output impedance make it a great team player with other pedals. You'll get the best out of it with the Drive knob set low for edge-of-breakup tones or higher for more saturated lead sounds, and the Tone control offers a wide range of high-frequency shaping without affecting the lows. We like this one for players chasing expressive, vintage-style overdrive that still feels modern enough to drop onto any pedalboard and get to work.
