Description

The Gibson Custom Shop 1942 Banner Southern Jumbo is a heartfelt tribute to one of the most iconic acoustic guitars in Gibson's history. Whether you're a singer-songwriter drawn to soulful strumming or a blues picker chasing the dry, articulate snap of pre-war tonewoods, this reissue captures the magic of the originals with an uncanny level of detail. It's made for the player who loves history and nuance-and wants a guitar that sings just as well on stage as it does in a quiet writing room.

True to the wartime roots of the model, the Southern Jumbo proudly wears the "Only a Gibson is Good Enough" banner on its headstock. This 1942 reissue leans into vintage-correct materials and construction, including a thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top for enhanced response and tonal maturity right out of the case. Paired with rosewood back and sides, the guitar offers a rich low end, crisp highs, and a wonderfully balanced midrange-making it equally suited for warm fingerpicked passages and bold, open-chord strumming.

Playability is exceptional thanks to a comfortable C-shaped mahogany neck, a 1.77" bone nut, and a short-scale 24.75" fingerboard that lends a slightly slinkier feel. The rosewood fingerboard is adorned with mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays for that unmistakable vintage Gibson look. The open-slot belly-down bridge, bone saddle, and open-back tuners round out a build that's steeped in history yet incredibly alive and responsive under the fingers.

Finished in a gorgeous Vintage Sunburst and housed in a period-correct case, this guitar isn't just a nod to Gibson's golden era; it's a living, breathing instrument with stories yet to be written.

At Cream City Music, we're drawn to guitars that stir something in you the moment you pick them up. This Southern Jumbo is one of those rare acoustics that feels like it's always been yours. Every chord rings honest. Every note matters.
