His immense influence on rock and blues music spans generations, and now Gibson Custom pays tribute to that legacy with the Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom-a stunning replica of Clapton's original three-pickup '58 Les Paul Custom that also passed through the hands of guitar legend Albert Lee.
This historically significant instrument was a workhorse during Cream's first American tour and can be heard on recordings like Disraeli Gears and in performances with Delaney & Bonnie. Meticulously recreated using cutting-edge 3D scanning technology and ultra-precise Murphy Lab aging, this Les Paul captures every detail of Clapton's original, including the unmistakable wear patterns and sonic characteristics that made it such a beloved stage and studio companion.
At the heart of this guitar lies a hand-selected, ultra-lightweight, one-piece mahogany body, paired with a mahogany neck and bound ebony fretboard featuring 22 historic medium jumbo frets. The three unpotted Custombucker pickups-positioned with the middle pickup's screws facing the neck-deliver warm, articulate tones with just the right touch of vintage edge. Meanwhile, the aged gold hardware, including Grover® Milk Bottle tuners, an ABR-1 bridge, and a lightweight aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece, perfectly complements its timeless looks.
Only 150 of these exceptional guitars have been crafted by Gibson's elite luthiers in Nashville, Tennessee. Each one comes with a Duck Brothers-inspired case, a second pickguard signed by both Eric Clapton and Albert Lee (presented in a wooden display case), a special Certificate of Authenticity booklet featuring a photo by Chuck Stewart, a black leather Archive Series strap, and a Gibson Custom switch plate medallion.
