Gibson's former president Theodore 'Ted' McCarty launched numerous guitars into the spotlight of rock 'n' roll - from the Les Paul to the Flying V, his designs have been seen and played worldwide. The Theodore draws inspiration from one of McCarty's unreleased designs, and it's an absolutely killer guitar - and one of just 106 ever crafted in this striking cherry finish.
The Theodore sports a 2-piece alder body with a walnut center strip, giving it a bright, balanced tone with pronounced upper mids and a sharp attack. Not only does it sound good, but this axe plays like a dream - weighing only 6 pounds 5 ounces, it's incredibly light and balanced. Unique to the Theodore's body is a pair of Florentine cutaways that exude vintage vibes and give full, unrestricted access to all 22 frets for upper register riffage.
The Theodore sports a Chunky 1957 "C" shaped mahogany neck that feels substantial but not too thick, making it perfect for playing everything from big, grandiose chords to blazing lead lines. Players will also love its genuine Indian rosewood fretboard that feels silky-smooth in hand, and its scimitar headstock that gives it a classic 'Explorer-esque' look.
Powering the Theodore is a pair of Custom Soapbar P-90's that churn out a stellar array of thick, punchy tones with plenty of top-end 'sparkle.' With the volume and tone rolled off a smidge, these pickups are spanky and warm with an exceptional mid-bass response. When cranked to their limit and slapped with some dirt pedals, the Theodore pumps out a massive, speaker-shredding snarl that'll put most 'rock' guitars to shame. No matter what sound you're chasing, the Theodore is more than capable of delivering the goods.
