Description
Here's the Gibson SG Standard '61 FSR with '68 Appointments in Ebony-a limited-run model you're not going to see often. This one's for players who want vintage SG attitude but with a few late-'60s tweaks that make a real difference. If you're into classic Gibson feel and tone but prefer a bit more tuning stability, smoother output, and gold hardware flash, this build really hits that sweet spot.
It's built on true '61 SG bones: solid mahogany body with the sharper horn carve, long neck tenon, small pickguard, and a Slim Taper mahogany neck that joins at the 22nd fret. From there, it gets outfitted with a set of late-'60s style upgrades-most notably a Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge for improved intonation, a Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, and Gibson T-Type humbuckers. These pickups lean late-'60s in voice; they're a little tighter than PAFs with a bit more clarity and punch, making them great for players who want that mid-forward SG bite but without things getting too loose.
Playability is as you'd expect from a well-spec'd SG: light, fast, and reactive in the hands. The 1 11/16" nut width gives you some extra room without feeling oversized, and the rosewood board with trapezoid inlays keeps things traditional and clean. It's got just the right amount of give under your fingers, and the Vibrola is surprisingly stable when set up right. We're really glad we were able to get a few of these. It's a sharp-looking, great-playing guitar that bridges two of the most sought-after SG eras in one solid, road-ready build.
