Description
The JAM Pedals Rattler mk.2 takes everything that made the original a favorite for thick, amp-like distortion and pushes it a step further. If you're into the sound of those classic early '80s distortion boxes but want something with a bit more flexibility and presence, the mk.2 gets you there. It still dishes out that saturated, sustaining tone, but with the addition of selectable clipping styles and an independent mid boost, it's more adaptable to modern pedalboards and playing styles.
At its core is a custom-designed discrete component op-amp, built in-house to preserve the dynamic, open feel of the now-rare LM308 chip. You get both symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping options via the toggle switch-great for fine-tuning the feel and saturation. The second footswitch activates a pre-gain mid boost, designed not to raise volume but to enhance presence and cut through a mix. There's also an internal trimmer and dip switch to fine-tune how the boost behaves, whether you want it tight and focused or more full-bodied.
The Rattler mk.2 is rugged and intuitive, with a layout that makes on-the-fly adjustments easy. It handles different rigs well and stacks nicely with other drive pedals. We've had great results using it both as a primary distortion and as a rich lead boost into a cleaner amp. For players looking for vintage character with modern control, the mk.2 version makes a strong case.
