The 0xEAE Boost is a collaboration between Electronic Audio Experiments and the Obstructures design crew, built for players who want a brutalist approach to tone shaping-literally and sonically. This one's ideal for experimental guitarists, noise rock players, or anyone after a no-nonsense boost/drive that leans heavy into character and texture. Its visual nods to vintage sloped fuzz enclosures are cool, but the real story is how much sonic force this thing puts at your feet.
At its core, you're looking at a discrete op amp gain stage with a treble boost up front-great for cutting through in a dense mix or pushing an already-cranked amp. The pedal offers both active and passive tone shaping, so it's not just a "set it and forget it" boost; you can sculpt everything from glassy edge-of-breakup to full-blown harmonic saturation. Expect thick, mid-forward grit with rich intermodulation and upper-frequency bite that's meant to stand out.
Everything about the 0xEAE is overbuilt in the best way, from the circuit's power protection to the raw aluminum housing that feels like it could survive a drop off the stage. It's compact, pedalboard-friendly, and made to be punished. We trust it to take a beating and still deliver every time.
Controls:
- Master: Output volume level. Ranges from -∞ dBu to an excess of +20 dBu. (Use judiciously.)
- Filter: Passive, variable frequency low pass filter. Slide right to cut high frequencies. Cutoff frequency ranges from outside the audio range at minimum to 480Hz at maximum.
- Gain: Primary gain stage. Adjustable from approximately +26 dB to +46 dB. Slide right to increase gain.
- Focus: Input treble boost. Ranges from +0 dB to +26 dB for high mid frequencies. Slide right to add saturation and harshness.
- Footswitch: Effect activator.
