The Rainger FX Reverb-X is a mini digital reverb pedal that brings a lot of personality in a small footprint. It's ideal for experimental players, pedalboard minimalists, or anyone who wants reverb that goes far beyond traditional ambient textures. Designed around the FV-1 chip, it includes Rainger's Igor expression pad for real-time control, letting you physically shape your reverb on the fly-a clever way to inject movement and drama into your sound.
This pedal's standout feature is its built-in overdrive that comes after the reverb, not before. That's a rarely-seen setup that creates wild, textured trails without touching your dry tone. You can blend in as much grit as you want using the "Distn" knob-from subtle breakup to scorched-earth crunch. The "Gate" function adds even more control by slamming shut the reverb when you stop playing, giving you tight, rhythmic control over spacious effects. Controls:
- LVL (Level): Sets how much of the reverb signal you hear, from fully dry to fully wet. Your clean guitar signal is always present, so it never gets lost in the effect.
- SIZE: Adjusts the reverb's length and decay time, ranging up to 5-6 seconds for big ambient washes.
- DISTN: Blends in post-reverb distortion. You can go from 100% clean to fully saturated reverb tails, without ever touching your dry input tone.
- INPT (Input): Controls how much signal hits the effect section. Set it just below the point where the red 'Overload' LED lights up frequently if you want a clean reverb. Higher input = more reverb presence, more drive, and a lower gate threshold.
- OUT: Sets the pedal's final output volume, with plenty of headroom to match or boost your rig.
- DARK: Toggles between two voicings-bright and immediate, or darker with a touch of pre-delay.
- GATE: Controls where the noise gate sits. Switch out: gate comes before the effect circuit to quietly manage cable hum when idle. Switch in: gate moves after reverb and distortion, shutting everything off the moment you stop playing-great for dramatic, sample-like cuts.
- Igor Pad (External Control): A pressure-sensitive foot controller. When plugged in, your signal stays dry until Igor is pressed-then it routes into the effect circuit based on your knob settings. Let go and the reverb trails off while your dry signal returns. Two sensitivity modes: firm press (hard side) or lighter touch (rubber side).
