Spaceman Effects' Sputnik III uses NOS Soviet germanium diodes and transistors, giving it a nuanced voice characterized by complex textures, aggressive crunch, and gorgeous sustain. Characteristic of germanium fuzz units, the Sputnik III's controls are highly interactive and can yield an extensive array of distortion sounds.
The Sputnik III features a four-knob interface with controls for Scan, Calibrate (Tone), Range (Gain), and Signal (Volume), plus a three-way filter toggle switch. It also comes with a Drift mode operated via a corresponding footswitch for creating experimental, self-oscillating fuzzed-out mayhem. And, with the Drift mode's new momentary functionality, the tonal possibilities are nearly infinite.
