Inspired by the classic surf sound born in Southern California, the G&L Doheny takes its name from the iconic beach in the heart of Orange County where '60s surf pioneers became legends. Since those halcyon days, both music & surfing have evolved far beyond their roots & so has the performance of the gear. Doheny takes the bolt-on offset-body into new sonic territory with newly developed Magnetic Field Design jazz pickups, the first on any production G&L. Naturally, these new pickups will invite comparisons to Leo's jumbo MFD ASAT Special pickups, given they employ a narrow bobbin aperture & broad coil splay. But Doheny's MFD pickups are more about jangle than twang, just as they should be for a guitar like this. With a classic jazz bobbin aperture wrapped with traditional Formvar wire, these pickups just might be the approach Leo would have taken had he been with G&L a few years longer.
The sound is rich in harmonics yet surprisingly full, the result of carefully researching & applying Leo's creative work across the decades. The Doheny pickups deliver the experience fans have hoped for, with their flexibility maximized by the PTB tone system that allows echoes of yesteryear while delivering more output & range for today's music. Add in Leo's finest vibrato for enhanced tuning stability & improved sustain & the results are astounding. The Fullerton Deluxe Doheny features a Leo Fender-designed Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, a work of engineering art which allows bending up or down with unsurpassed stability, while offering a silky feel through its beefy aluminum vibrato arm.
Cosmetic Condition: Excellent condition - very clean & still like new with only some mild surface scratches.
Neck: Modern Classic profile hard rock maple neck with 9.5" radius maple fingerboard & black dot inlays. Medium Jumbo frets are in great shape with hardly any wear. G&L diecast tuners & single string tree. 1 11/16" nut width; 25 1/2" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Body: Contoured, solid swamp ash body finished in 3-tone sunburst. G&L tremolo bridge with adjustable saddles & original trem arm included. 4-ply tortoise pickguard. Guitar weighs 8 lbs 3.7 oz.
Electronics: Formvar wound wide bobbin G&L MFD pickups with 3-way selector switch. Master volume & dual tone controls. The pickup covers & knobs are parchment, but there's an extra set of white covers & knobs included with the guitar.
Case: Original hardshell case included along with COA & paperwork.
