Description

A used Victoria Electro King tube combo amp in great shape. Used but not abused, this amp has some very minor tolex blemishes but is otherwise quite clean. The discoloration on either side of the amp can be considered patina, as it is caused by the sap from knots in the pine cabinet. This can be commonly seen in vintage blonde and tweed Fender amps from the 50s and early 60s.

Inspired by the classic Gibson GA-40 combo of the late 50s, the Electro King utilizes the RCA-designed 5879 audio pentode in its front end. The 1st stage pentode combines increased input headroom and extended top end with a power amp that reminds of a tweed Deluxe. The upgraded Weber Classic Alnico speaker in this amp adds even more smooth top end. The result is an amp that is extremely fun to play. Throw in the harmonically-rich 6SQ7 tremlolo, and you have a truly special boutique amplifier. This amp has been cleaned and tested. It is fully functional and sounds absolutely fantastic.

From Victoria...

The Electro King is an idealized recreation of the classic McCarthy-era GA-40. Its circa-1957 circuit features two cathode biased 6V6s for 15watts of recording and small club power. The heart and soul of the Electro King is its 5879 preamp circuit; a single NOS 5879 input pentode for each of the normal and tremolo channels provides rich distortion and natural tube compression at any volume setting. Notes seem to be ‘blown’ out of the amp with overdriven tones that are saturated, dynamic and musical. Jeff Tweedy has his hands on one, do you?
