Description
What makes this guitar special: A remarkable piece of Gibson history, in marvelous condition for a guitar nearing 100 years of age. From the hand inlaid pearl designs on the headstock & fingerboard, to the hand-carved spruce top and monstrous neck profile-this piece is a delight to play. Professionally inspected and setup by our expert in-house luthier staff, and ready to play out of the (original!) case.
Cosmetic condition: Outstanding shape for a piece of this vintage. There are the expected signs of wear throughout-various scratches, dents, dings, nicks, and scuffs, along with visible wear in the top from different bridge placement over the years. There is one small section on the top of the bass side on the back of the body that has shrunk with age, and appears to have been glued. Notably-this guitar showcases no cracks or breaks, no splits in the binding, and original frets that look to be in nearly unplayed condition. This L-1 plays better than many examples of the same era, with low string action that is comfortable up and down the length of the entire fingerboard. For its age, this guitar is a 9/10.
Body: Maple back & sides with bound carved solid spruce top. Bound soundhole with multi-ring rosette, ebony bridge, and original nickel trapeze tailpiece.
Weight: 3 lb, 12.5 oz
Neck: Chunky one-piece V-shaped solid mahogany neck with bound dark ebony fingerboard. 1 13/16” nut width, 24 3/4" scale length. Black headstock overlay with mother-of-pearl “The Gibson” headstock inlay. Black side dots. Pearl dot inlays. Original strip tuners with original buttons work great. Neck is straight and plays great up and down the length of the instrument.
Case: Original hard shell case included. Case shows wear consistent with age, and the handle is broken. However, it still does the job and all latches close.
