Description
What makes this guitar special: These cute little archtops were only made in this size (13.5" body width) for a very short period of time - from about 1924 to 1926 & produce a bright, punchy tone. This particular one has had some work done to it, making it more of a player's grade guitar, but it still delivers that beautiful, rich sound synonymous with this model. Comes with a professional set up from Cream City Music, the vintage experts.
Cosmetic Condition: Cool vintage vibe with some wear & tear - at the time we acquired the guitar it had a couple of minor headstock cracks which our luthier professionally repaired. The headstock is stable with no playability issues. There are a couple of long cracks in the bass side of the body in both the upper & lower bouts. These cracks were already repaired before we acquired the guitar. They too are stable with no movement when pressure is applied. The guitar has been completely refinished & there are certain areas where the body binding was replaced, including the bottom strip where the end pin would normally be. The neck is straight with no angle issues. It feels very comfortable & plays great up & down the fingerboard. Overall the guitar has a nice, worn in look to it with a gorgeous patina. Not bad for guitar that's around 90 years old!
Neck: Chunky, V-shaped mahogany neck with nicely aged ivoroid binding & black side-dots. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. There's some mild pitting in the fingerboard in the first few frets, but not bad & nothing that affects playability. The guitar was refretted some time ago & there is no fret wear. Truss rod cover is missing. Original strip tuners are in perfect working condition. The D & G string tuners have unoriginal top rings. 1 11/16" nut width (replaced nut); 24 1/2" scale length.
Body: Solid spruce archtop with a bound, round soundhole & herringbone rosette. Nickel trapeze tailpiece & compensated, ebony bridge. The tortoise pickguard is original, but a portion of the bottom section near the bridge was carved off. The back & sides appear to be birch. The guitar is lightweight (3 lbs 15.2 oz) & very resonant. There is no pickup.
Case: Unoriginal & much later period chipboard case included.
