Description

Description: Vintage 1929 Vega Little Wonder Tenor Banjo

Condition: Very good overall. Various surface scratches, nicks, dings and dents throughout the finish. There is one area on the neck in which the lacquer wore away likely due to a chemical compound (see photos). This is not affecting the finish any further. Metal parts have some light blemishing, overall very clean. One of the lug nuts has a tiny crack. It is still functional and does not affect playability or sound (see photos). No structural issues. Tuners have lost some friction and will need some work to stay in tune. All parts are otherwise original and in good working condition.

Body: 11” diameter natural calf skin head with 28 lugs on a nickel tension hoop. Nickel tailpiece, maple based bridge with ebony saddle. Maple pot with tortoise binding features a single wood coordinator rod. Tortoise bound 8-piece quilt maple resonator with gorgeous figuring! This model does not feature a tone ring.

Neck: “V” shaped maple neck with bound Ebony fingerboard, pearloid dot inlays and a 1 1/8” nut. Nickel friction tuners with ivoroid buttons, 23 ¼” scale length.

Weight: 6lbs, 3.0oz.

Playability/Sound: This banjo offers a nice, full bodied sound. It sounds better than one might expect giving it’s simple design. The resonator allows for plenty of volume and resonance and the maple pot and natural cal skin head give it a concise attack. The neck is very comfortable and suitable for any playing style. The tuners will just need a little work to retain their friction and hold tuning.

Case: Includes original hardshell case. One latch is broken.
