Description
What makes this guitar special: A gorgeous piece of Gibson history made sometime around the mid to late '30s & sporting the old style Gibson headstock logo. A hand-carved, solid spruce top delivers a warm, rich tone, while the highly figured arched maple back gives the guitar a visually stunning appearance. An after-market pickup ensures this beauty is stage-ready. Professionally set up by us with fresh strings, the guitar plays & sounds marvelous.
Cosmetic Condition: Pretty good shape for its age - obviously played, but certainly not abused. Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches, weather checking & some finish wear. There are no cracks. The back binding has shrunk just a tiny bit in the waist on both the treble & bass sides, but it's really not too bad & is hardly noticeable.
Neck: Semi-chunky maple neck with cream side-dots. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. There is some light pitting in the first few frets of the fingerboard, but nothing significant that would affect playability. Original frets are in good condition with some light wear & plenty of life in them. Mother of pearl Gibson headstock logo. Original tuners with newer buttons in perfect working condition. 1 3/4" nut width; 25" scale length. Neck is straight & plays well up & down the fingerboard. An after-market strap button was added to the neck heel.
Body: Double-bound, 16" archtop & archback. Hand-carved, solid spruce top in sunburst finish with dual F-holes. Trapeze tailpiece with compensated rosewood bridge. There are two shims underneath the bridge. Later-period tortoise pickguard. Beautifully figured maple back with some pretty birdseye & maple sides. Guitar weighs 5 lbs 1.5 oz.
Pickup: An after-market passive pickup was added. The wrap-around portion of the tailpiece is newer, with a 1/4" input jack that doubles as a strap button. It's a simple, under-saddle pickup with no controls.
Case: Unoriginal, generic hardshell case included which the guitar fits into nicely.
