Description
What makes this guitar special: Fantastic for slide or a great project for anyone looking to convert a vintage resonator into a more traditional acoustic, this Dobro has a ton of character and a long-standing history. Even at 80-years-old, it still has great tone with a lot of warmth in its low end and lower midrange and rounded pop in the upper register, all with great sustain. Since they were originally built with higher action, this will make a super cool piece for slide playing especially for anyone with a taste for vintage. Although it has various love marks throughout from nearly a century of being played, it’s still in great shape. It could use a little love here and there to get it in prime playing condition, but a little bit of care will take this fantastic Dobro to the next level.
Condition: This resonator is in good condition overall, it not better. It does show various nicks, dings, dents, scratches, and other forms of normal wear, but is still in great shape for an instrument that’s 80 years old. The neck angles were originally set for the action to be high, so it will make a fantastic slide guitar, but will also be a neat project for someone if they’re looking to convert it to a traditionally-playing acoustic. There is some pitting, discoloration, and warping (mostly over the bridge itself) of the cone cover, but does not impede use of the bridge or cone. There is some cone buzz at certain frequencies, but for its age, still has great sound.
Body: Double bound small-shoulder body in Sunburst finish. Unbound F-Holes. Single cone with patterned nickel cover.
Neck: Thick V shape neck and hardwood fingerboard with dot inlays. 3-per-side open-gear tuning machines. 1 13/16” nut width. 25” scale. 1.05” deep at the 1st fret.
Weight: 4 lbs 13.1 oz
Playability/Sound: Wonderfully resonant with great sustain, a warm overall tone and great rounded pop in the upper range.
