Description
What makes this guitar special: Made for only a short period of time between '49 & '55, this particular version of the ES-5 sports three "dog ear" P-90s, a rounded cutaway & master tone control. Gorgeous flame figuring throughout the guitar & aside from the nut, she's all original! Warm, rich tone with a natural acoustic feel. Professionally set up & inspected by the experts at Cream City Music, so she's ready to play straight out of the case!
Cosmetic Condition: Fantastic shape for a guitar reaching retirement age - various minor nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some mild finish wear on the neck. Overall the guitar has a wonderful, true vintage vibe with a beautiful patina.
Neck: Nicely rounded & very comfortable flame maple neck with perfectly aged cream binding & tortoise side-dots. Dark rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl block inlays. Small frets are in great shape with hardly any wear. Bound headstock with mother of pearl inlays. Kluson "waffle back" tuners with single-ring tuners in perfect working condition. 1 11/16" nut width; 25 1/2" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Body: Hollow, flame maple body with bound F-holes & Venetian cutaway. 3-ply bound top & back. Trapeze tailpiece with ES-5 engraved in the crossbar; compensated rosewood bridge & gold hardware. 5-ply black pickguard is in great shape with some slight curvature & pick scratches, but no cracks. A portion of the bottom end pin has chipped off & the strap button near the neck is after-market. Guitar weighs 7 lbs 1 oz.
Pickups: Three P-90 single coils. Bridge - 8.06K ohms; Middle - 6.99K ohms; Neck - 8.29K ohms. Four gold "barrel" knobs - individual volume controls for each pickup with master tone control. All electronics are in perfect working condition.
Case: Original Lifton 4-latch hardshell case included. The case shows some wear & tear, but has held up well over the years. The previous owner had the case covered in black vinyl quite some time ago, which we removed after acquiring the guitar & restored it to its former glory.
