Description

What makes this guitar special: An original 58 with no breaks, no repairs, and absolutely dynamite playability. The neck feel on this piece is out of this world! Chunky, with an ever so slight taper, while the brazilian rosewood fingerboard is soft and comfortable…this guitar almost plays itself! The solid mahogany construction is resonant as can be, and the weight isn’t a killer either, making it perfect for long nights of playing.

The finish on this piece is a bit of a quandary, as many signs seem to indicate originality, while a few do not. The pots and electronics are undisturbed, and the guitar shows no cracks, breaks, or signs of refinishing under blacklight. However, the headstock lacks the Les Paul Junior logo on the front, and the serial number on back of the headstock has been restamped with a dash between the 8 and 6. This would often be an indicator of a factory repair or refin. As such, we believe this guitar was factory refinished by Gibson at some point in the 60's, based on the aforementioned details and the fact that the finish looks nearly perfect.

In any event, it’s a great piece with tons of mojo, and a terrific, killer sound. It comes professionally inspected and setup by our in-house master luthier, ready to play right out of the case.

Cosmetic condition: Great shape for its age, with all the expected playwear of a 60 year old guitar. Various nicks, chips, dings, dents, scratches, chips, scuffs, and spots of finish wear throughout the instrument. Visible weather checking throughout the instrument, and some oxidation on the hardware. The back of the neck shows some scratching in the finish behind the third and fourth frets, and a bit of wear behind the 9th and 10th as well. However, these don’t hinder playability. The dot inlay at the 21st fret is also missing, and the D-string tuner is bent, but fully functional.

Body: One-piece mahogany body in TV yellow with single ply tortoise shell pickguard and wraparound stopbar tailpiece.

Weight: 7 lb, 8.3 oz

Neck: Chunky mahogany neck with aged white side dots and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard shows some pitting here and there, but none that hinders playability in any way. The neck may have been refretted at some point, but its possible the frets were simply leveled. There is ample life left in them. 1 11/16” nut width, 24 3/4" scale length. Original Kluson tuners function perfectly. Neck is straight and truss rod is fully functional.

Electronics: Single P-90 single coil pickup in the bridge position (7.66K ohms) with dual black tophat knobs, 1x tone, 1x volume. Pots appear to be original, as do solder joints. All electronics are in full working condition.

Case: Unoriginal, contemporary Gibson hard shell case included.
