Description
What makes this guitar special: We’ve affectionately dubbed this one “the blue fox” here at the shop, because at some point in the ‘70s, a previous owner covered the entire body in a faux fur, blue velour coating. Not only that, they did the same thing to the case, with a black coating. Strange as it may be, we’ve sure never seen anything quite like it. The electronics cavities show the original red finish, along with all original parts and componentry. This one is a bit of curiosity in another way, as the neck dates to Dec. ’65, but has a Brazilian slab board, which is really rare to find this late into the ‘60s. This one just barely didn’t make ’65, with pots that date to ’65, but pickups that date to January and February of ’66. It’s a killer player, with one of the kitschiest vintage vibes you’ll ever see. It’s been professionally setup and inspected by our expert in-house luthier, and will arrive ready to play out of its original velour-covered hard shell case.
Cosmetic condition: Excellent shape overall! The velour covering does a good job of hiding any blemishes or damage on the body, but some of the finish checking underneath has peaked through on the back bass side, and in small sections of a few other areas. The neck is in great shape overall with a handful of small dings, and visible wear in the clearcoat, but nothing that hinders playability. The headstock shows some really cool finish checking, and while the frets do show some wear, they have plenty of life left in them. Beyond that, there is just some very light pitting near the first position of the fingerboard, and some tarnishing on the hardware.
Body: Solid alder body refinished with blue velour covering and 3-ply pearloid pickguard. Fender vibrato and six-saddle bridge with individually adjustable saddles.
Weight: 7 lb, 8.2 oz
Neck: C-shaped maple neck with aged white side dots and aged white dot inlays. Brazilian Rosewood slab fingerboard is in awesome shape with only some very light pitting near the first position. Neck heel dates to December of ’65. Wide headstock with dual string trees and F-stamped nickel tuners with white buttons. 1 5/8” nut width, 24” scale length. Neck is straight and plays smoothly up and down the length of the fingerboard.
Electronics: Original Fender single-coil pickups (Neck-5.72K ohms, Bridge-5.67K ohms) with 3-way selector switches, and black knobs with white indicators. Pickups date to January and February of ’66, pots date to ’65, and all electronics are in fully functional condition.
Case: Original hard shell case included. Case is covered in black velour and the middle latch is broken, but is in overall good shape.
