Description

What makes this guitar special: A top-of-the-line player’s grade piece, with the most stunning birdseye maple fingerboard we’ve ever seen. The figuring up and down the length of the neck is breathtaking, and an incredibly rare find on a ’68. The neck dates to November of ’67, with matching codes on the underside of the neck and the body, and the pots date to ’66-a terrific early CBS example at an affordable price. Professionally inspected and setup by the experts at Cream City Music, this beauty will arrive ready to play out of the case.

Cosmetic condition: Great shape for its age, with some standard playwear throughout. Various scratches, dents, dings, nicks, chips, and scuffs, with areas of finish wear and weather checking throughout. The body was long ago refinished in an amber natural color, and two small holes were filled on the back of the body at that time. The frets show wear consistent with age, but all notes ring clear up and down the length of the fingerboard. Tuners have been replaced with Schallers, and holes from the original Klusons were filled. The front of the headstock shows a small hole where a second string tree was added, which has since been removed. The pickguard is unoriginal. The body has been routed in the neck position to accommodate a humbucker, and the pickup cavities have been blacked out. Overall, this one has a terrific player’s vibe, with fantastic playability and tone.

Body: Solid ash body refinished in amber natural with 3-ply black pickguard. String through bridge with triple steel barrel saddles. F stamped neck plate dates to early ’68.

Weight:  7 lb, 6.2 oz

Neck: Nicely rounded B-shaped maple neck with black side dots and black dot inlays. Stunning birdseye maple fingerboard is in good shape, with some standard wear, most notably in the first position, and along the fingerboard edges. Frets show wear consistent with age, but still have life in them. Replacement Schaller tuners function perfectly. Neck is straight and plays beautifully up and down the length of the fingerboard.

Electronics: Unbranded replacement single coil pickups (Neck-8.71k ohms, Bridge-9.12k ohms) with 3-way pickup selector switch and knurled chrome knobs, 1x tone, 1x volume. Pots date to ’66, and all electronics are in great working condition.

Case: Original hard shell case included.
