Description
What makes this bass special: 100% original & in great shape for its age. But what really makes this gorgeous Jazz Bass so special is the absolutely stunning flame figuring in the neck & headstock! You just never see that in late '70s early '80s Fender instruments. It's quite possible this one may have been a custom order for a customer back then, who knows. Regardless, the bass has an amazing look, especially with the trans red finish & black pickguard. A real beauty & tough to beat in the looks department.
Cosmetic Condition: Really great shape for its age & fairly clean for the most part. There are some nicks, chips, dents & dings along with surface scratches & mild finish wear. The trans red finish is still very strong & vibrant and shows of the ash grain quite nicely.
Neck: Nicely rounded & semi-chunky flame maple neck with cream binding & black side-dots. Beautiful rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl block inlays. Original frets are in great shape with no wear. Headstock decals are also in great shape & very clean with no bits missing. Fender chrome tuners are in perfect working condition. 1 1/2" nut width with bullet truss rod & single disc string tree. 34" scale length. Neck is straight for the most part, but there is a slight hump beginning around the 13th fret, where the action does get a little high, but by & large the bass is definitely playable.
Body: Contoured, solid ash body finished in trans red. Top-loading bridge with four barrel saddles & original bridge cover. 3-ply black pickguard shows some pickwear, but no cracks & has its original thumb rest. Bass weighs 11.35 lbs.
Pickups: Original Jazz Bass single coils with chrome covers. Both pickups deliver warm, rich tones with wonderful sustain. Dual volume & single tone controls with black skirted knobs. Pots date to '80 & all electronics are in good working condition.
Case: Original hardshell case included.
