Description
What makes this guitar special: This killer sounding Explorer II, or E/2 as they're commonly known, features a five-piece maple & walnut body & neck with a silky smooth ebony fingerboard. What's really interesting, though, is the lengthy series of numbers stamped into the back of the headstock. It's not the usual Gibson serial number, however, it does appear to be original from the factory. It's a bit of a head scratcher & we're not exactly sure what it means, but regardless, the guitar is still super cool!
Cosmetic Condition: Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches, buckle rash & some finish wear. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with a nice patina.
Neck: Slender profile walnut & maple neck with cream side-dots. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Frets show some light wear, but have plenty of life in them. Gold Gibson mini tuners are in perfect working condition. The finish on the back of the headstock has dulled a bit & is not as glossy as the rest of the guitar, we also believe the neck was refinished at some point. Also, the brass string-guide behind the nut is not original, but we decided to leave it on. 1 11/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Body: Contoured, solid walnut & maple body. Gibson TP-6 tailpiece with Tune-O-Matic bridge & gold hardware. Most of the gold has worn off the tailpiece, but is still quite prevalent on the bridge. 5-ply black pickguard is in great shape with only a very tiny crack near one of the screws. Guitar weighs 9 lbs 7.1 oz.
Electronics: Gibson T-Top neck humucker with exposed coils - 15.57K ohms. Gibson bridge humbucker with chrome cover - 7.18K ohms. Dual volume & master tone controls with black speed knobs. Pots date to '82, which is how we came up with the year for the guitar.
Case: Original hardshell case included. The two outside latches do not stay closed very well, but the middle one works fine.
