Description

Made for only a brief moment from '76 to '80, this first-year S-1 is from Gibson's "experimental period" & popularized by such players as Ron Wood & Carlos Santana. Featuring three 'see-thru' single coil pickups designed by Bill Lawrence along with with fairly elaborate circuitry to generate both humbucking & single coil pickup sounds. Fully inspected & professionally set up with fresh strings & low action so it's ready to play straight out of the case.

Cosmetic Condition: Typical play wear for a guitar that's 50 years old - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches, weather checking & some finish wear. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with an ultra cool, authentic vintage vibe.

Neck: Maple neck with cream side-dots. Rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Frets show only a tiny bit of wear. Flying V style headstock with S-1 truss rod cover & unoriginal Grover tuners. 1 11/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.

Body: Contoured, solid maple body finished in black. 5-ply black pickguard shows some pick wear, but no cracks. Stopbar tailpiece & "harmonica" bridge with adjustable saddles. Guitar weighs 8 lbs 6.7 oz.

Electronics: Three Bill Lawrence-designed 'see-thru' single coils. 2 way toggle switch and 4 position "chicken beak" rotary switch. Master volume & tone controls with black speed knobs. Pots date to '75 & '76 & all electronics are in perfect working condition.

Case: Unoriginal hardshell case included.
