Description
Made for only a brief moment from '76 to '80, this first-year S-1 is from Gibson's "experimental period" & popularized by such players as Ron Wood & Carlos Santana. Featuring three 'see-thru' single coil pickups designed by Bill Lawrence along with with fairly elaborate circuitry to generate both humbucking & single coil pickup sounds. Fully inspected & professionally set up with fresh strings & low action so it's ready to play straight out of the case.
Cosmetic Condition: Used, but not abused & in pretty good shape for a guitar that's nearly 50 years old - various nicks, chips, dents & dings along with surface scratches. The body was refinished in white quite some time ago. Overall the guitar has a great look to it with an ultra cool vibe.
Neck: Maple neck with cream side-dots. Rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Frets are in great shape with hardly any wear. Flying V style headstock with S-1 truss rod cover & Gibson-embossed nickel tuners. 1 11/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Body: Contoured, solid maple body refinished in white. 5-ply black pickguard shows some pick wear & has a small chip out of one corner. Stopbar tailpiece & replacement "harmonica" bridge with adjustable saddles. The original bridge is included with the guitar. Guitar weighs 7 lbs 10.7 oz.
Electronics: Three Bill Lawrence-designed 'see-thru' single coils. 2 way toggle switch and 4 position "chicken beak" rotary switch. Master volume & tone controls with black speed knobs. Pots date to '79 & all electronics are in perfect working condition.
Case: Original hardshell case included. One of the clasps broke off, but is included with the guitar.
