Description

One of the most instantly recognizable basses on the planet, the Hofner 500/1 has been at the forefront of countless numbers of rock groups for over six decades. This example from 1968 has an ultra cool, true vintage vibe to it with a comfortable feel & gorgeous tone. Professionally set up & ready for action straight out of the case.

Cosmetic Condition: Good honest play wear, just the way we like to see them - various nicks, chips, dents & dings; scratches & weather checking. Overall the bass has a great look to it with a beautiful patina.

Neck: Rounded maple neck with nicely aged cream binding & black side-dots. There's some light flame figuring in the treble-side of the neck. Rosewood fingerboard with mother of pearl dot inlays. Frets are in great shape with hardly any wear. Closed-back tuners work great. 1 5/8" nut width with zero fret; 30" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.

Body: Double-bound, violin-shaped body in sunburst finish. Spruce top with maple back & sides. Again, there's some nice flame figuring in the body. Nickel trapeze tailpiece with adjustable ebony bridge. The original pearloid pickguard is missing. Bass weighs 4 lbs 12.3 oz.

Electronics: Dual "blade" single coils with black bezels. Dual volume controls with "tea cup" knobs. Rhythm/Solo, Bass & Treble switches. Pots date to '68 & all electronics are in good working condition.

Case: Original chipboard case included - a little rough, but still serves its purpose well.
